Kensington Community School Garden

Kensington Community School Playground

The children and parents of Kensington Community School, with the help of community volunteers, are undertaking the mammoth task of revitalizing and greening our playground by digging up sections of pavement and remaking the space to be more welcoming for the children and the community.

Our unshaded and barren playground is being transformed into a native plant garden by the school community, guided by Angel Gentili. The garden will offer students a natural retreat during recess, provide the school and daycare with an outdoor classroom for environmental education and give the children the experience of planting and caring for a garden.

Kensington Community School’s new native plant garden is financially supported by KMAC and the TD Friends of the Environment Fund. To help us buy plants, I deal coffee  is fundraising by selling a special garden blend.

We hope to strengthen the sense of community between children, school staff, parents and neighbours with our beautiful garden.

During the whole of the month of May 2012 Kensington Market’s rich history will be the focus of a show of digitized images displayed in shops and shop windows throughout the market as part of the Scotiabank Contact Photographic Festival.

Thanks to the cooperation of Toronto’s “Clean and Beautiful Initiative” and a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation, KMAC has given the corner of Augusta and College an outstanding makeover featuring the amazing bike stand created by artist Phil Sarazen.

Thanks to a “Live Green” grant obtained under KMAC‘s sponsorship, Sonya’s Parkette has been re-landscaped with a garden of decorative and edible plants by a group of enthusiastic volunteers.
